The UpDown Recycled Messmate desktop is an eye-catching desk full of character and handmade by artisan furniture makers right here in Melbourne. Constructed from reclaimed local timber, each desktop offers unique grain patterns and characteristics for people interested in beauty as well as function and environmental sustainability. Using traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joins to ensure structural integrity, the desktops are finished with a double varnish top coat for a smooth veneer and extra protection. The Natural Messmate desktops have a lighter appearance than the dark messmate. This solid wood desktop is a generous 27mm thick with a pencil bullnose edge type and a square corner. It features reinforced bars on the underside of the desktop for additional strength. As a natural wood product each desktop is unique with its own unique grain patterns and characteristics.

TIMBER ORIGIN & CONSTRUCTION
Sustainable Sourced: The timber is sourced from local demolition sites and then de-nailed and painstakingly sanded back to reveal the life that is still in the timber.
Protective Coat: Each piece of timber goes through multiple sanding processes and then receives 3 coats of varnish and hand-staining (where applicable), for a smooth polish finish. Imperfections such as nail holes are filled with a tough dark epoxy.
Steel Bar Reinforcements: The desktop comes with steel reinforcement bars on the base for added structural integrity. The bars prevent any movement between the joined pieces of timber.
Threaded Inserts: The desktop comes with preinstalled threaded inserts, for ease of installation when inserting the screws and providing a stronger bond between the frame and desktop.
